Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering

There are two Bachelor Degree programs for undergraduates: pharmaceutical engineering and pharmaceutical preparations. Faculties  participate doctoral programs both in pharmaceutical engineering and technology and in medicinal chemistry, and master programs both in pharmaceutical engineering and pharmacy disciplines. And all faculties are members of Engineering Research Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Process Chemistry of Ministry of Education.

The Pharmaceutical Engineering major of East China University of Science and Technology originated from the "Chemical Pharmaceutical (Engineering)" major established in the early days of the University in 1953, which pioneered the training of engineering professionals in undergraduate level in China. In the past 20 years, as the director unit of the pharmaceutical engineering teaching guidance sub-committee of the colleges and universities, and the director unit of the pharmaceutical engineering professional sub-committee of the pharmacy professional teaching guidance committee of the higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education, it has organized and participated in the drafting of many national documents about major construction. In 2008, this major was selected as a specialty of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, it was selected as one of the first pilot projects of the “Engineer of Excellence Program". In 2012, it passed the internationally equivalent engineering education certification, becoming the first major in China to pass that certification among more than 200 majors of the same name. For more than 60 years, the pharmaceutical engineering major has cultivated more than 4,000 high-quality pharmaceutical talents including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and industry leaders.

The Pharmaceutical Preparation major was established in 1993 and began enrolling students in 1994. It has a capable and experienced teaching and research team whose goal is to cultivate engineering and technical personnel who are not only capable of drug research and development and process design but also good at technical management of pharmaceutical companies. Since its establishment, it has developed nearly 1,000 graduates who are widely welcomed and praised by employers.
